Recipe - How to make Chana Dal Spinach

1. Chana dal takes more time to melt, so first wash the chana dal and soak it in water overnight. Well soaked chana dal gets cooked in pressure cooker in just 3 whistles.

2. Now, chop spinach leaves finely. Wash the chopped spinach 2-3 times with water and drain the water through a strainer.

3. Put oil or ghee in the pressure cooker. When the oil is hot, add asafoetida, cumin, bay leaf, big cardamom, cinnamon and fry it. When fried, add finely chopped green chilies and garlic-ginger paste. After a minute (after the rawness of garlic-ginger comes out), add tomatoes to it. Along with tomatoes, add salt, red chili powder, turmeric powder to it. Mix well and roast the spices for 2-3 minutes on low flame. When the oil starts floating over the spices, it means the spices are roasted.

4. Now add soaked chana dal and finely chopped spinach to the roasted spices and roast them for 2-3 minutes after mixing in the spices. Add water (three times as much water as the chana dal) and close the pressure cooker. Cook on high flame for 3 whistles. Switch off the gas after the third whistle. Open the lid after the pressure of the cooker is released.

Chana Dal Spinach is ready. Add green coriander and serve chana dal spinach with rice or hot chapati and enjoy the food.

If you want, you can keep the thickness of the dal as per your wish. If the dal look thick, then add water in dal and keep it on the low flame for 2-3 minutes without lid.
